Dear Parents and Staff,
We are continuing to investigate the incident at the Middle School with administrators and law enforcement.
As educators, we are putting our focus on ensuring our students understand the impact words and symbols have, and the ramifications they can cause. Mr. Connolly met with all Middle School students yesterday, and reinforced that “acts of hate and bias are unacceptable and have no place in Millburn Middle School. I discussed with our students the need for them to demonstrate respect for others at all times and challenged them to do their part in making Millburn Middle School a safe, secure and welcoming learning environment for all.”
We are sharing that same message in developmentally appropriate ways at all grade levels. Please help us at home, when opportunities arise, to continue the conversation with your children.
In a timely opportunity to share the message of kindness, please join our own Caring Kids organization at their annual holiday party tomorrow, Saturday, December 15th from 12-2 pm at Hartshorn School. Volunteers of all ages are invited for a festive gift-wrapping, card-making, chocolate treat dipping celebration. Many hands will make light work of decorating the gifts donated by our generous community for the families of the New Jersey Regional Day School in Newark. Thanks for helping Caring Kids “change the world one kid at a time!”
Kindergarten Registration for the 2019-2020 school year will take place from January 2 through January 31, 2019
If you have a child who will be entering Kindergarten next September (children must be 5 years old by October 1, 2019), we ask that you please register your child during this window so we may plan properly for the number of students anticipated. Parents of incoming Kindergarteners may begin the pre-registration process online now at registration.millburn.org. Select a January date on the Registration Gateway calendar to schedule an in-person meeting at the Education Center with the registrar to finalize your registration. Please remind friends and neighbors! Follow the instructions here.
Angst – A Film Presentation for Parents
Mark your calendar now for January 15 at 7 pm at the MHS Auditorium.
Thanks to a generous grant from district parents Julie and Frank Cohen, the Education Foundation of Millburn-Short Hills will hold a special screening of “Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety,” followed by a panel discussion.
The film aims to start a global conversation and raise awareness around anxiety. Through candid interviews, they utilize the power of film to tell the stories of many kids and teens who discuss their anxiety and its impacts on their lives and relationships, as well as how they’ve found solutions and hope.
Please join us at Monday’s Board of Ed meeting at 7:45 p.m. as we recognize and congratulate our Fall athletes, as well as bid farewell to retiring staff and outgoing Board of Education members.
Enjoy the weekend!
Dr. Christine Burton
Superintendent of Schools
