MILLBURN,NJ - As a follow-up to our annual Board of Education Forum on January 27, I want to share our compilation of the questions and answers that were considered at the forum, as well as those emailed to us.  If you were unable to attend you can watch the forum here:  BOE Forum. Please note, we welcome your questions, and want to hear your concerns.  Our administrators’ doors (and emails) are always open to parents and students. If we don’t know an answer right away, we will find out and get back to you. I look forward to hearing from you.

Each One Teach One

Last week the Millburn High School Self-Advocacy Club held their annual “Each One Teach One” Conference.  Millburn hosted 8 schools and approximately 80 students, to hear the Self Advocacy club members speak about different learning challenges, and how they advocate for themselves.  In small group sessions they focused on a variety of topics: what are accommodations?, mental health self-advocacy, building relationships, paths to college and worksite training/vocational school options. Individual speakers shared their specific challenges and their successes, and recent High School graduates came back to talk about their experiences.

This student club also shares these valuable lessons with younger students around the district.  They recently took their show on the road to Washington School where they taught students about different learning challenges, and how to get the support you need to achieve your goals.  I am so proud of these students who have learned not to be defined by challenges, but how to learn from them, and find success in high school and beyond.

Did you know? President's Day never falls on the actual birthday of any American president. Four chief executives—George Washington, William Henry Harrison, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan—were born in February, but their birthdays all come either too early or late to coincide with Presidents Day, which is always celebrated on the third Monday of the month.

Learn more about the history of Presidents Day here.

Enjoy the long weekend.  See you on Wednesday!
