MILLBURN, NJ -- Crowds gathered here in Taylor Park for the lighting of the 2nd Annual “Winter Walk,” presented by the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce. Held a day after “Shop Local Saturday,” the event highlighted the importance of community and supporting local destinations and businesses this holiday season.
“It brings people down into the town,” said Stephanie Murphy, President of the Millburn/Short Hills Chamber of Commerce. “They can come down and have lunch, they can have dinner, they can come and see the lights. It brings the community together.”
This year, organizers were able to expand the event, and even tripled the amount of lights in the park, thanks to their sponsors. “We thought this was the perfect event,” said Katie Chasin, of Prominent Properties/Sotheby’s International Realty, a sponsor of the event. “It’s just completely festive and all-inclusive, and we were proud to be a part of it.”
The Snowflake Stroll, an annual winter parade, began the day’s events. Holiday characters, such as The Grinch, guided the way. The celebration continued with music and local performers, and the lighting was held after dark. Millburn businesses remained open late to allow visitors to shop local.
“The park lighting and Snowflake Stroll engages the community in a positive campaign,” said Jamie Serruto, a project manager of the event. “We want to advocate for people to come and enjoy here so we can have that mom and pop relationship, and bring pride to our own town.”
The Winter Walk will run every evening in Taylor Park from now through January 24, 2019.
