BELMAR, NJ — A dark-colored minivan, with a Citi Cab top-light on its roof, was pulled late this afternoon from Silver Lake.
The vehicle was hoisted out of the north side of the lake by a flatbed tow truck at about 5:15 p.m. on October 22, as Belmar and New Jersey State Police were at the scene along Fifth Avenue.
No details have been provided by authorities, and inquiries have been referred to the Toms River Police Department, which has not yet responded as of 9 p.m.
On September 23, Wayne Kovacs, 55, a driver with Citi Cab of Neptune, was reported missing after he was dispatched for a fare that was scheduled to travel from Asbury Park to Seaside Heights. It is not known whether he made it to that destination, and there has been no contact with him since then, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.
There has been no connection or confirmation by law enforcement that the cab found in Silver Lake may have been the one he was driving.
