Morang Nets 26, but Pioneer Girls Lose Hoop Opener

NEWARK, NJ - The New Providence varsity girls basketball team opened its season with a 68-53 loss to Neptune at University High School in Newark on Saturday, but received a big-time performance from sophomore Sydney Morang.

Morang connected for a game-high 26 points, including 11 from the foul line, and collected nine rebounds and three steals for the Pioneers. Katie Kinum finished with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists in the loss.

New Providence fell behind, 18-13, after one quarter and trailed, 34-20, at halftime. The Pioneers made a run in the third quarter to close to within 46-37 before Neptune pulled away in the final period.
