LIVINGSTON, NJ — As the number of COVID-19 cases increased to 514 in Livingston on Thursday, the township announced that 53 of the 69 local deaths attributed to the coronavirus have been from Livingston-based long-term care (LTC) facilities.
The average age of the 53 deceased individuals from LTC facilities was 86.14 while the average age of the 16 deceased individuals from private residences was 78.02. According to the township, the average age of deceased individuals overall is 84.2, and 98.51 percent of all deceased were over 55 years old.
The age of all deceased individuals in Livingston was further broken down as follows:
- 1.49 percent under 55 years old
- 98.51 percent 55 years and older
- 86.57 percent 70 years and older
- 79.1 percent 80 years and older
- 35.82 percent 90 years and older
- 4.48 percent 100 years and older
According to the township, the five-day rolling average of new cases in Livingston as of July 26 was 0.8
Essex County reported a total of 19,499 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday afternoon with 1,856 deaths attributed to the virus since March.

Statewide COVID-19 Statistics as of July 29
The statewide total increased to 180,970 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday with 13,934 deaths attributed to the novel coronavirus.
Gov. Phil Murphy reported a total of 761 patients battling COVID-19 in New Jersey hospitals as of Wednesday, 361 of whom were known to be COVID-19 positive and 400 who were listed as “persons under investigation” pending the return of test results. A total of 116 patients are in either critical or intensive care, and 49 ventilators are in use, he said.
The spot positivity rate for tests from July 25 is 2.42 percent in New Jersey, while the rate of transmission rose to 1.14 after being safely below 1 in previous weeks.
