Morris Township Residents Receive New Trash Carts

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ - The following is a letter from Superintendent Thomas J Eschmann to the residents of Morris Township:

Dear Resident,

The Department of Public Works has delivered new trash carts to Phase One streets, to be used as part of the Automated Trash Collection Program. This program is scheduled to begin on Monday August 25, 2014. When distributing the carts the delivery crew placed the carts in a preferred position for collection. Remember this position when placing your cart at the curb once the program has commenced. Our collection vehicle requires four feet of clearance on either side of the cart to safely collect your cart and return it to its original position. Please position the cart away from vehicles, mailboxes, and utility poles.

Please do not use the cart prior to your collection day during the week of August 25, 2014. This cart is specifically designed for this program and requires a special lifting arm or cart tipper to dump the contents into the truck. Your trash collection day remains the same; if your trash is collected on a Monday your collection day remains Monday; if it is collected on a Tuesday it will remain Tuesday, ect. Your recycling collection will not be affected by this new program, so please continue to follow all guidelines as they pertain to recycling.

It is the intention of the Department of Public Works to continue to provide our residents with the same level of service they currently receive. If you have large items for trash collection, i.e., rugs, chairs, tables, you will be required to contact the Public Works office to have these types of items collected on your trash collection day. We will limit the number of daily collection of large items. All large items will be collected on a call-in notification basis only…the first call in will be the first served.

You may contact the Department of Public Works Office with any questions or concerns, Monday thru Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM at (973) 326-7398, or email us at
