MORRISTOWN, NJ - On Friday, January 29th, the night was filled with music, laughter, tapping toes and loud applause as students from Unity Charter School took the stage in the annual Talent Show. The show was filled with carefully choreographed dance steps, melodic voices that filled the auditorium, a few silly jokes and even a “synchronized swimming routine” that had the audience in stitches.

The parents were just as integral to the show as some took to the stage themselves for remarkable performances and impressive dance moves. Performances also included a wonderful range of talent from Irish Step Dancing to magic and gymnastics.  The evening certainly reflected the diverse and dynamic learning environment of the school. There were first graders sharing the stage with eighth graders and behind the scenes the middle school crew kept the show moving at a smooth swift pace.

This is certainly one of the most popular and energetic events and to see the entire school community come out to support the arts at Unity Charter School was a astonishing. Perhaps the greatest compliment came from one of the youngest audience members who ran up after the show and excitedly announced that she could not wait to join the show next year.

Joyful learning can flourish in school, if you give joy a chance.

“Learning is contagious when you allow students to do it through extrinsic motivation. For many of our students this means allowing them the time and opportunity to learn more about their passions…their strengths.  Our students carry these opportunities and memories for a lifetime and it helps build their self-esteem.  Offering them an opportunity to showcase their talents and passions to our commUnity is imperative", said executive director, Connie Sanchez.   "Additionally, seeing them share a stage with teachers, who had a “dynamite” performance shows them how passionate our teachers are about encouraging and motivating them in all aspects of learning and development.”
