A Glen Gardner woman escaped injury Friday evening after the vehicle she was operating, ran off the road and up an embankment. At 8:55 pm, multiple 9-1-1 calls reported the accident in the #100-block of Glen Road.
When officers arrived on the scene they found a 2008 Buick SUV disabled and moderately damaged on the embankment. Standing next to the vehicle was the operator and only occupant, 45-year-old Patricia Guerriero.
Guerriero was not injured in the accident. However, Investigating Officer Kurt Morris, could detect a strong odor of alcohol emanating from her mouth and her speech was badly slurred. After Guerriero failed a series of Field Sobriety Tests, she was placed under arrest for DWI. In the vehicle in Plain View were two bottles of wine, one that had been partially consumed.
Guerriero was then transported to police headquarters for processing and breath testing. Guerriero’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit. She was charged with; DWI, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain a Single Lane of Travel, Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle and Possession of Open Containers of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle. Guerriero was released several hours later to a sober adult. Her vehicle was impounded. Sgt. Jeffrey Mase and Officer Richard Smith assisted with the investigation.
