Mulcahy Pins Vail to Win District 10 Championship

MILLBURN, NJ -  Chatham senior Dylan Mulcahy won the 145-pound NJSIAA District 10 Championship with a pin over top-seeded Bobby Vail of Roselle Park on Saturday.

Mulcahy built a 12-0 lead before finishing with a pin in 5:02, improving his season record to 32-4 and earning a trip to the Region 3 tournament at Union High next weekend.

It was Mulcahy's first-ever district title after finishing second in two other years.

"Dylan deserves it, he worked hard for it," Chatham coach Brian Cassera said. "To get to the final he wrestled great."

Vail, now 23-10, was on the defensive from the start. Mulcahy scored an escape for an early point and then put Vail on his back to make it 5-0. Mulcahy then built his lead to 8-0 and 12-0 before gaining the fall.

In the morning semifinal round, Mulcahy had scored a 15-2 major decision over Zach Evans of Madison.

Mulcahy now stands 102-24 in his career, having become the first Chatham wrestler to reach 100  victories with a pin in the district quarterfinal round on Friday.
