MILLBURN, NJ — In a press release sent out by the school district, Millburn Public Schools announced that art students in the district won 52 awards in this year's Northern NJ Regional Scholastic Art competition.
According to the release, the Scholastic Art and Writing competition is sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. The mission of the competition is to identify, motivate and validate the next generation of artists and writers.
The Scholastic Art competition is also the nation's longest-running, largest and most prestigious recognition program for creative teenagers in the visual and literary arts in the United States.
In order to select the winners, a panel of jurors, consisting of artists, photographers, designers, educators and curators reviewed thousands of works of art submitted by students in grades 7-12 from throughout the Northern New Jersey Region.
The process is "blind" so the jurors do not know any personal information (name, town, school) about the students. The artwork is reviewed with the following criteria of Originality, Technical Skill, and Emergence of Personal Vision.
