EAST ORANGE, NJ -- The City of East Orange has created a $600,000 fund, with money received from the federal government to alleviate the pressure of tenants struggling to pay rent due to COVID-19 economic hardship. Assisting tenants to pay their rent will help prevent homelessness in the city while also helping landlords who may also be struggling to receive payment.
Eligible households will receive assistance of up to $3,500 or payment for up to three months’ rent in arrears in a one-time, lump-sum payment made directly to property owners or management companies that agree to not evict.
The East Orange Pandemic Rental Assistance Program is being administered on behalf of the City of East Orange by three local nonprofit agencies: NJ SHARES, Isaiah House and the East Orange Community Development Corporation. Please only submit one application to one agency. Duplicate applications will be discovered and not considered eligible for award. Federally subsidized units are not eligible to receive East Orange Pandemic Rental Assistance. To qualify the household income must not exceed 80% of the Area Median Income as indicated on the chart below. To access the application, please click here.
