New Fanwood “Chippery” to Open Soon

April 14, 2013 at 5:56 PM

FANWOOD, NJ – Local fish and chip lovers watching the site of the old Chippery on South Avenue waiting for developments, were rewarded last week when the modular unit arrived.

Brian Walter and his partners purchased the property several years ago and they realized that the old structure would have to be demolished and they decided to go with a modular structure for the rebuild.

Progress has been slow, due to the discovery of old petrol tanks, circa 1925, that had to be dug up and carted away.

“It has been a bit frustrating,” explained Walter, “because we were told by the previous owners and by the town that no tanks existed.  It was only when the bank did their research that they found old survey maps that showed the tanks.  So, everything had to stop until we figured out how to get them out of the ground!”

The tanks were removed last summer, but it has taken this long to finish the paperwork, get the approvals and order the modular unit.

“We are hoping to be up and running by early summer,” said Walters.
