February 4, 2013 at 8:12 PM

Denville, NJ – Thanks to generous support from the United Way of Northern New Jersey, DAWN Center for Independent Living is offering a new comprehensive, dynamic life skills program for teens and young adults with disabilities in Morris and Sussex counties called “Skills for Independent Living” (SkIL).  SkIL is designed to expand a broad range of critical skills necessary to live a rewarding, independent life in the community.  Components include SkIL for Daily Living, SkIL in the Community, SkIL for Employment, and SkIL for Self-Expression, covering themes such as “Who fired the maid?” (Keeping a Clean, Neat Home), “Hey, it’s my life!” (Skills and Resources for an Independent Life), “Work that works for me!” (Exploring Competitive Employment), and “Some of the finer things…” (Exploring the Creative Arts).  The teacher, Helen Bradfield, DAWN’s Independent Living Specialist, holds a master’s degree and is an experienced State of New Jersey certified Teacher of the Handicapped.  Field trips into the community and visits from special guest speakers will provide a truly fun, hands-on learning experience.

For more information about DAWN, call 973-625-1940, TDD 973-625-1932.  For questions regarding SkIL, ask for Helen or Carolee.  You can also learn more about DAWN at www.dawncil.org.
