MAPLEWOOD, NJ- The South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education passed a resolution appointing current Assistant Principal Elizabeth Aaron as the new Columbia High School Principal at its meeting on Tuesday evening. Aaron will become principal effective July 1, replacing interim principal Kirk Smith.
“We are really excited about this appointment and thank the Board of Education for its support,” said Superintendent Brian Osborne. “As assistant principal at Columbia High School, Ms. Aaron has consistently proven herself to be a problem-solver who connects positively with all stakeholders, especially our students. She brings the capacity and determination to work collaboratively with staff, parents, students and the community to make systematic improvements at Columbia High School that will no doubt strengthen curriculum and instruction, expand opportunities for our students, increase equity and excellence in everything that we do and ensure that all our graduates are prepared to have the choice to succeed in college.”
Aaron came to CHS last year after teaching high school history for 10 years in Asbury Park and Summit. She has also developed curriculum and led programs in professional development and inclusion. She is a PhD candidate and holds two master's degrees.
“It is my deep honor to have been offered the position of principal at Columbia High School,” Aaron said. “I am extremely humbled by the opportunity to lead a very storied institution. I am energized by the work that lies ahead and I am quite confident that we will do it.”
