New Providence Baseball Advances to Tuesday's State Semifinal

SPRINGFIELD, NJ – The New Providence varsity baseball team is now two victories away from winning a state title.

The Pioneers defeated University Charter on May 22 to advance in the NJSIAA North Jersey 2, Group 1 tournament ,where the team will visit Jonathan Dayton of Springfield in the section semifinal on Tuesday.

David Gelormini and Dean Bogdanovic combined for the 7-0 shutout victory over University Charter. They allowed only four hits, while striking out eight and walking just one.

Bryan Sherman drove in two runs on two hits, while also scoring once, while Matt Romeo, Jordan Morang and Jeff Doran each knocked in a run.

In their two previous meetings in early May, New Providence was outscored by Dayton, 15-4, losing both games to the Bulldogs, 9-4 and 6-0.

First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Dayton High School in Springfield.
