New Providence Boys Basketball Falls Just Short of State Final


BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The New Providence boys’ basketball team fell just short of being bracket busters on Friday night.

Coming off Wednesday’s dramatic come from behind victory over North Arlington, the Pioneers fell just short to No. 1 Bloomfield Tech, 45-40, in the North Jersey 2, Group 1 semifinal.

The Pioneers trailed by one in the final 10 seconds, however senior Bryan Sherman missed the front end of a one-and-one with a chance to tie or take the lead.  New Providence didn’t touch the ball again.

After a pair of fouls on defense, New Providence allowed a coast-to-coast layup to put Bloomfield Tech up by three and into the state sectional final.

Senior Jordan Morang scored a game-high 12 points, while fellow senior Curtis Kyzima added 10 to finish their New Providence careers.
