New Providence Boys Lacrosse Beats Gov. Livingston, Move on to UCT Semis

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – The Pioneers’ varsity lacrosse team is heading to the UCT Final Four.

Backed by sophomore Quinn Killeen’s four-goal performance, New Providence defeated rival Gov. Livingston, 12-7, in the Union County Tournament quarterfinal on Monday at Lieder Field.

New Providence outscored the Highlanders in every quarter, holding GL to one goal in three of the game’s four periods en route to the Pioneers’ second win over their nemesis in the last week.

Pioneer junior attacker Jack Harvey added three goals and four assists. He is currently tied for seventh in the state with 49 tallies this season.

Brian Hutton and Garrett O’Connor each scored three times for the Highlanders, while Alex Lipnick assisted on five of GL’s seven goals in the game.

New Providence net-minder Garrett Pope picked up the victory, stopping eight Gov. Livingston shots.

The Pioneers move on to Thursday’s semifinal, where they will face Summit in the second game of the UCT doubleheader. Westfield and Scotch Plains-Fanwood face off at 5 p.m., with the Pioneers and Hilltoppers beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Arthur Johnson High School in Clark.
