NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – The Pioneers’ boys lacrosse program got back to its winning ways on Tuesday. Following back-to-back losses on Friday and Monday, New Providence dismantled Union City, 15-2, on Senior Day at Lieder Field.
Graduating seniors Jon Ebert and James Burke combined to score six goals, while junior Jack Harvey scored six of his own. Sophomore Quinn Killeen also notched a goal in the victory.
The Pioneers never trailed in the game, scoring 15 consecutive goals over the first three periods to put the game away early.
Sophomore goalie Garrett Pope pitched a shutout, stopping all three shots he faced before being relieved by his two backups, Doug Chacon and Nick Papadimas, late in the contest.
New Providence is off until Friday when they get a visit from Lower Cape May in the opening round of the South Jersey, Group 1 state tournament. Faceoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Lieder Field.
