SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Outstanding pitching could not overcome a lack of offense on Sunday for New Providence.
The Pioneers' 10U baseball team fell, 1-0, to Westfield in the semifinal round of the District 12 baseball tournament at Booth Field in Scotch Plains.
Westfield scored its run in the first inning and held on. Dean Licari and Zach DeGeorge each pitched three exceptional innings for New Providence in a losing cause. Pitching was a staple for New Providence (4-1) throughout the district tournament. In four of their five tournament games, the Pioneers allowed two runs or fewer.
Westfield will play Millburn-Short Hills Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. at Booth Field in the District 12 championship game.
