NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J. – Backed by 28 points from sophomore Sydney Morang, the New Providence girls’ basketball team defeated Roselle Catholic, 53-51.
Tuesday night's upset over the Lions gave the Pioneers their sixth victory of the year.
New Providence trailed by two at the end of the first quarter, however the Pioneers outscored Roselle Catholic in each of the next two periods.
Leading by five going into the fourth quarter, the Pioneers held on to beat the previously undefeated Lions.
Outside of Morang’s 28, Hannah Caminiti and Katie Kinum both scored eight for the Pioneers.
Allieyah Cubbage led the Lions with 21 points, while Tori Pozsonyi scored 17 in the losing effort.
New Providence is back in action on Thursday when the Pioneers visit Westfield for a 7 p.m. tilt.
