NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - On the eve of July 4th, local residents flooded downtown New Providence to attend the annual Independence Day Celebration held there.
Investors Bank, which has funded the Independence Day Celebration for the last four years, sponsored the event again this year, along with the New Providence Business and Professional Associatioin.
“One of our Four Core Values is community,” Investors Bank Branch Manager Antonio Dei Medici explained, “so we want to be a part of the New Providence community as much as possible.”
And the tight-knit community in the town of New Providence could not have been more evident at the Independence Day Celebration. People of all ages gathered at the fireworks display to honor this special holiday with fellow New Providence residents.
Local businesses Martial Arts for Life and Kapuscinski Luongo Architects sponsored the event “Chalk on South Street” for the children. Kids could pick up a small bucket of chalk for free and draw pictures on South Street while they waited for the fireworks to begin.
Rich Brugger, owner of Martial Arts for Life, said that he chose to provide chalk to the children attending the Independence Day Celebration again this year because so many young people enjoyed it that he wanted to be a part of it again.
As another testament to the sense of community in New Providence, Brugger added “if you do business in the community you should give back in any way that you can. . . it’s a small thing that we do.”
Also for kids, juggler Will Shaw roamed around South Street entertaining the large crowd of children that followed him.
Throughout the night, DJ Mike Savage sat atop the Jets truck at NP Fuel playing classic songs for all ages.
And in the hours preceding the fireworks show, residents set up blankets and lawn chairs on South Street and the surrounding area to make sure that they had the perfect view for later on that evening.
Crowds mingled in the time leading up to the fireworks display, but during the show viewers sat in awe of the fireworks that they watched.
