05-01-2014:  Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Michael Jacobson, age 34, of Stratford, Connecticut with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia after his vehicle was stopped for having an expired registration.  During the motor vehicle stop Patrolman Diamond detected the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle.  He was released pending a mandatory municipal court date.

 

05-01-2014:  Patrolman Michael Hand arrested Joseph Wyatt, age 39, of  Easton, Pennsylvania on an outstanding warrant out of Union Township after his vehicle was found parked at Oakwood Park in violation of the Borough Ordinance of being in the park after dark.  He was released after posting bail.

05-07-2014:  Patrolman Joseph DiParisi arrested Kevin Garcia, age 19, of South Ozone Park, New York for possession of marijuana under 50 grams after his vehicle was stopped for failing to have its headlights on, improper lane change, and failure to maintain lane.  During the motor vehicle stop Patrolman DiParisi detected the odor of raw marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle.  He was released pending a mandatory municipal court date.

 

05-10-2014:  Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Ralph Fabre, age 53, of the Borough with driving while intoxicated after discovering he was involved in a motor vehicle crash.  Mr. Fabre allegedly  left the scene, driving over a curb, before he was stopped by Patrolman Diamond.  Mr. Fabre was arrested and also charged with refusal to submit to breath testing, reckless driving, failure to report a motor vehicle crash, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, and operating an uninsured vehicle.  He was released pending a municipal court date.

 

05-13-2014:  Patrolman David Rodriguez arrested Akili Cross, age 40, of Staten Island, New York on an outstanding warrant out of the Borough.  The warrant was revealed during a motor vehicle stop.  Mr. Cross posted the bail and was released.

 

 

 

 

05-15-2014:  Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Ezeria Williams, age 43, of Newark for theft of a motor vehicle after a resident of an apartment complex on Springfield Avenue reported the vehicle stolen.  The police investigation revealed Ms. Williams alleged involvement in the theft  and the vehicle was subsequently located in the city of East Orange. Ms. Williams was being held on separate charges in East Orange. 

 

On May 15, 2014 a resident reported that her Chase credit card rewards account was accessed by an unknown individual.  The suspect transferred the victims reward points to his account.  Chase was notified and the card was cancelled.  This matter is under investigation by the Detective Bureau.

 

On May 16th, 2014, Patrol officers investigated the report of a hit and run motor vehicle crash on Southgate Road.  The suspect vehicle, described as an older model, black and red, Ford Bronco struck the parked vehicle while attempting to complete a U-turn.  A witness was able to give officers a partial plate.  The investigation lead to Joshua Lazaro, age 19, being charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report a motor vehicle crash, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and various other motor vehicle charges.  Mr. Lazaro was also charged with a violation of 2C:29-1A, obstruction of the administration of the law. All charges are pending an upcoming Municipal Court appearance. 

 

On May 16, 2014, a resident reported that his TD Bank debit card was being used in another state.   The suspect allegedly intercepted the victims debit card and began making charges to the account.  TD Bank was notified and the card was cancelled.  This matter is under investigation by the Detective Bureau and by TD Bank.

 

On May 18, 2014, Patrolman Michael Hand observed a dark colored SUV proceeding east on Mountain Ave driving in a careless manner.  The driver crossed the painted lines several times and a motor vehicle stop was conducted.  Ptlm. Hand suspected the driver may be under the influence of alcohol and conducted sobriety tests.  After his investigation, Ptlm. Hand arrested Sharon Mayer, age 42, and charged her with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), DWI with minors in the vehicle and failure to keep right.  Ms. Mayer has a mandatory court appearance in New Providence Municipal Court.

 

On May 19, 2014, a New Providence business reported the theft of over $65,000, in cash, that occurred several days in the past.  The business reported that an employee had taken the cash that was due to the business for previous purchases by their clients.  The business reported making several attempts to contact the employee with little success.  The employee was also in possession of a company vehicle, which was reported stolen after the employee failed to make contact.  A thorough investigation, led by Detective Donald Sretenovic, resulted in the arrest Gregg Chandler age 51, of Farmingdale, NJ, in the early morning hours of May 22nd at a roadside motel in Jersey City, NJ.  The stolen vehicle was recovered several blocks away from the arrest location along with a large amount of the stolen cash.  Mr. Chandler was charged with Theft and a Motor Vehicle Theft.  He is awaiting an appearance in Superior Court. 

On May 25, 2014, Cpl. Chad Wilson observed a vehicle being operated by Rosemary Cooney, age 54, of Livingston, NJ.  The vehicle was observed swerving in the lane on Central Ave.  Cpl. Wilson conducted a traffic stop and detected the odor of alcoholic beverages. He further suspected the driver may be under the influence of alcohol and conducted sobriety tests.  After his investigation, Cpl. Wilson arrested Ms. Cooney and charged her with Driving While Intoxicated.  Ms. Cooney has a mandatory court appearance in New Providence Municipal Court. 

On May 26, 2014, a Central Avenue business reported criminal mischief to their property.  The business indicated that a patron had broken a significant amount of property owned by the business and also had smashed several liquid jars causing damage to carpeting and walls.  Surveillance video was obtained of the area and an investigation was launched by the Detective Bureau.

A multi-age civic partnership is transforming a roadside parcel of County parkland into a lush, natural habitat for the endangered Monarch butterfly and many other valuable pollinators including butterflies, bees and birds.
