New Providence Postpones Fireworks Until Saturday Night

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The threat of inclement weather has forced the borough to postpone its planned Indepedence Day activities from Thursday night to Saturday.

The event program and time schedule that was slated for Thursday night will remain the same for Saturday, July 5, capped by the fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm ripped through New Providence on Wednesday evening, when portions of the borough were without power for more than two hours, and more severe weather is in Thursday evening's forecast. Weather is not expected to be a problem over the weekend, when fair skies, high temperatures in the 80s, lower humidity and virtually no threat of storms will be expected.
