Newark Beth Israel Medical Center announced that it has received three "Excellence Awards" from HealthGrades, the nation's leading independent healthcare ratings organization. The 2010 awards recognize excellence in "Coronary Intervention," "Maternity Care," and "Prostatectomy." Hospitals receiving this honor were in the top 10 percent in clinical excellence in specific specialty areas.

Since 1999, HealthGrades has independently rated the quality of care at the nation's 5,000 hospitals. Based on hospitalization records that hospitals submit to state governments and Medicare, HealthGrades utilizes the most recent data - approximately 40 million hospitalization records - to determine its star ratings and awards.

"We are proud and honored to have our efforts recognized by HealthGrades," says John A. Brennan, MD, Executive Director of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey. "These and all of our departments strive for excellence on a daily basis. Patient-centered care and attention to individual needs are always at the forefront of our efforts."
