NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls basketball team dominated over High Point 51-34 when they hosted them on Wednesday, February 13.
Newton came out strong, scoring a total of 28 points before halftime, while holding High Point to 19. The Braves kept up their momentum in the second half, scoring 11 points in the third and another 12 by the final buzzer.
Maddie Gore led the Braves in their victory, scoring 20 points. She had seven 2-pointers and two from 3-point territory.
Jade Luciani and Madison Leonardo had eight points. Leonardo was strong at both ends of the court with 12 rebounds throughout the game.
Olivia Buckley contributed six points. Kaitlyn Lynch, who had seven rebounds, scored five points. Davisann Boyd added four points.
The Newton High School girls basketball team moved their overall record to 18-3 and their conference division record to 10-0. They currently are in the lead of their division with High Point in second.
The third-seeded Newton will play away against second-seeded team Warren Hills on Saturday, February 16 beginning at 11 a.m. in the semifinal round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament.
