NEWTON, NJ—The Newton Girls High School Basketball team lost by two points in the semi-final round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament on Saturday. Third-seeded Newton played away against second-seeded Warren Hills on Saturday and lost with a final score of 54-52.

The Braves started strong, scoring 13 points in the first quarter and another 17 in the second, leading 30-23 going into halftime.

Warren Hills came out in the second half and scored 16 points in the third to Newton’s nine and another 15 in the fourth to Newton’s 13 to take the win by two points.

Kaitlyn Lynch led the Braves in points this game contributing 15. Madison Leonardo also contributed a total of 12 points to the score as well.

Jade Luciani put up eight points, while Maddie Gore had a total of six points this game. Amy Fehr, Jessie Brannick, and Olivia Buckley each put up three points apiece and Davisann Boyd had two points.

Newton moved their overall record to 18-4 and their conference-division record, which they are currently in first place of, to 10-0.

The Braves will host West Morris on Wednesday, February 20 in a night game beginning at 7 p.m.
