NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School girls basketball team lost their first game of the season when they played at Morris Catholic 49-37.
The two teams were evenly matched in the first quarter with Morris Catholic edging Newton 13-12. The bottom fell out for the Braves in the second quarter when they could only put up two.
The girls rallied after the half time break scoring 16 to nine. The Crusaders answered back in the final quarter 13-7, sealing the win.
Kaitlyn Lynch led the Braves effort with 15 points, four assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block.
Maddie Gore was strong on both ends of the court with 11 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, one steal and one assist.
Madison Leonardo put up nine points and Olivia Buckley contributed two points against Morris Catholic.
Newton made 13 2-pointers, three 3-pointers, and two foul shots throughout the game. They take this loss as the first one of their season.
The Newton High School girls basketball team moved their record to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in their conference division. The Braves will take on High Point away on Monday, January 14, beginning at 4 p.m.
