SOUTH ORANGE/MAPLEWOOD, NJ - There will be nine candidates competing for three open seats in the November election for the South Orange/Maplewood Board of Education, according to Essex County Clerk’s Office.

Incumbents Beth Daugherty (the current board president) and David Giles are running, along with challengers Marc Aronson, Marian Cutler, Jeffrey Dubowy, Margaret Freedson, Stephanie Lawson-Muhammad, Andrew Lee and Johanna Wright.

This will be the first school board election to take place in November, a move the board made this past year in order for the election to occur on the same day as the general election in an effort to boost voter turnout.
