BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The 2014 Amber Pizzo Memorial and 5K Fitness Walk will take place this Sunday, July 13 at Memorial Field in Berkeley Heights. The 5K will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The 5K was first run in 2006, in memory of Amber Pizzo, a young teacher who was killed by a drunk driver in July 2005. The Foundation was set up to honor her memory, and to provide resources and programs that promote making responsible decisions about alcohol and the dangers of underage drinking.
The Amber Pizzo Foundation works with service agencies, faith-based organizations and Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD), as well as many local businesses and sponsors to run the event.
Registration is still open online at www.amberpizzo.com; it is $22 plus $3.25 sign up fee for the 5K and $20 plus $3.25 sign up fee for the walk. In addition to the 5K and Fitness Walk, there will also be a “kids sprint”, which is available for children ages 2-7 and is free of charge. There will be various activities going on at Memorial Field during and after the race, as well.
