LITTLE FALLS, NJ -- Today marks the 19th anniversary of the founding of East Main Media, which was incorporated on 10/30/01. Owner and Executive Producer Brian Brodeur recently spoke with TAPintoTV host Stephanie Willoughby about founding East Main Media, lessons learned, and the evolution of the production studio as it enters its 20th year in business. 

Brodeur founded East Main less than two months after 9/11/01. That horrifying moment made Brodeur realize, “I had nothing to lose. What am I waiting for?” At the time, Brodeur had been working as a DVD producer under the brand NewYorkDVD. “I had a bunch of contacts and I made a couple of calls,” Brodeur said about starting out. “And, I landed a couple of jobs.” 

Initially, the first goal was to make it to five years in business, a milestone year for startups. And after that, Brodeur said, they reached 10 years in business, then 15 and now approaching 20. Through the changes in staff, services, and technology, East Main Media has evolved “from DVD to full post-production to really being a complete multi-tool of media,” Brodeur said.

One of the most significant things Brodeur came to realize through his many years in business was the “long list of things I just didn’t realize that I didn’t know I had to know,” he said. But as the company grew, Brodeur hired, diversified and needed to delegate tasks and responsibilities, which can be a challenge for an entrepreneur. But it was through staffing and partnerships that he was able to solve those things he didn’t know, he said. 

“I am a firm believer, I always have been, that everybody is a puzzle piece,” Brodeur explained. “Everyone has their unique shape and it’s how you put them together.” Every employee is going to have their own strengths and weaknesses, he said, and working on understanding the weaknesses while leveraging and nurturing the strengths, is how he has gathered an amazing team of people who have accomplished great work. 

Brodeur also shared some personal highlights, such as his favorite video shoot, which was filming Keith Urban and Randy Jackson in Nashville and Los Angeles in 2012.

As the company kicks off its 20th year, Brodeur said, “I’m looking forward to what’s next.”
