NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Mayor Michael Giordano has announced that the 15th Annual North Plainfield Fourth of July Parade has been cancelled due to inclement weather.
“The National Weather Service is saying there's an 80-90 percent chance of pouring rain at 10 p.m.,” said Giordano. “We have a lot of people in costumes and open cars that would be ruined if they got wet and we just can’t take the chance. It wouldn’t be fair to them, or to the families and friends viewing the parade.”
While rain wasn’t coming down at 7:30 when the decision was made, officials had to look at the rain and make a decision early enough to notify particpants and the audience.
There is no rain date.
The North Plainfield Independence Day Fireworks are still scheduled for July 12th at dusk at the West End School athletic fields.
