North Plainfield Announces Public Survey and Community Forum for Superintendent Search

April 15, 2014 at 2:34 PM

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The North Plainfield Public Schools are asking for the input of the public in their search for candidates to replace retiring Superintendent Marilyn Birnbaum.

The district has hired HYA Executive Search of Jersey City, NJ to manage the process of selecting the new Superintendent.  As part of that process, they are asking residents and stakeholders in North Plainfield to fill out an online survey and attend what they call an “Open Community Forum” on April 29, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the West End School Community Room.

Birnbaum announced her retirement in late February, and is scheduled to leave at the end of the school year.  She spent almost her entire career as an educator in North Plainfield schools, beginning in 1971 as an English teacher and serving as Superintendent since 1995.

The survey asks for input from school administration, teachers and staff; community members and parents; and community organizations such as Rotary, Borough Council, etc.  It does not allow a respondent to identify as a student.

The district sent out postcards in both Spanish and English requesting public input.  The internet survey address is given only to the English version of the survey, but there is also a Spanish survey for residents more comfortable with that language. Except for translation the surveys are identical.

Falling by Jane Green

Falling by Jane Green (Berkley, 2016)

Every now and again I just love a mindless romance novel, and I've been a huge fan of Jane Green's since her first book, Jemima J: A Novel About Ugly Ducklings and Swans. Despite being classified as “chick lit,” the character and plot of Jemima J. has stayed with me for sixteen years after first reading it because the story ...

The new movie Hidden Figures is now open in theaters nationwide, and I urge all parents out there to take your children to see it. It is a wonderful film with a wonderful message, not to mention a great endorsement of all things related to STEM.

Hidden Figures brings us to Langley, VA in the 1960s, just as NASA is preparing to launch its first Americans off of the planet and into the unknown.
