NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Below is an edited version of the North Plainfield Police Report issued on April 15, 2014. It is our policy at The Alternative Press of North Plainfield and Green Brook to redact names and addresses of people who have been arrested but not convicted. While we see value in releasing information regarding safety and police activity in our communities, we usually will not report names and addresses until a conviction is obtained.
Some additional editing for clarity is done, but for the most part these are as written by the responding officer.
WHEN: April 13, 2014 12:25 p.m.
WHERE: Batteries and Bulbs, Route 22 West, North Plainfield
ARRESTEE’S HOMETOWN: Manville
CHARGE: Simple Assault
DETAILS: On the above date and time I was dispatched to the above location for a report of a verbal dispute in which the above listed suspect produced a knife during an argument.
Before my arrival Police Dispatch advised me that the subject had fled the store east toward the BP Gas Station located at 511 Route 22 West. Upon arrival, Officer Boykoff and I located the subject near the gas pumps attempting to hide the knife in a refrigerator which dispenses cold drinks to patrons. Upon recovery of the knife I went to Batteries and Bulbs and spoke to the victim and witness who identified the accused by name.
The victim related that the subject had entered the store asking for help in finding his cellular phone. After attempting to help the subject, he became angry and held a folded knife in his hand which caused the victim and witness to fear for their personal safety and led to a call to this agency to respond. The victim related that he was not specifically threatened with the knife but the fact that he was holding it in his hand during a heated argument caused him to become alarmed. Accused was charged with 2C:12-1a(3) Simple Assault “To put another in fear of imminent serious bodily injury.”
