WESTFIELD, NJ — The coin counting machine in Northfield Bank at 828 South Ave. is always free to use. In May, the bank gave people extra incentive to count their coins there by offering to donate 10 cents of its own money to the Westfield United Fund for every dollar in change that people brought in to be counted.
As a result, Northfield Bank gave the WUF a check for $1,500 on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
“Northfield Bank is so pleased to be involved in the community and to be able to support the great things that happen in the town of Westfield,” said Robin Lefkowitz, senior vice president, director of business development, for Northfield Bank. “We’re especially pleased to be able to provide the Westfield United Fund with a check for $1,500 and we thank our customers for coming in with their change to enable us to do this.”
Diedre Gelinne, executive director of the Westfield United Fund, said, “I’m very grateful that they chose to partner with us for their first coin-counting promotion. We’ll put their donation to work helping people in our community.”
It wasn’t the first time Northfield Bank has given back to local non-profits, and Assistant Vice President, Branch Manager Maria Fuentes said it won’t be the last.
“It’s a nice thing to be involved in the community,” said Fuentes.
