WEST CALDWELL, NJ  -  West Caldwell has a brand new Ballet and Performing Arts school!  The West Caldwell Ballet Arts  (“WCBA”) opened their school in July and are located at the West Caldwell branch of the Presbyterian Church of Caldwell, 31 Fairfield Avenue.  The school has announced their First Annual Production of The Nutcracker;  the performance will take place on Saturday, December 1st,  6pm in the Verona High School Auditorium - 151 Fairview Avenue.

Directors Julie Granger,  Austin Jarred,  and Tanner Schwartz are currently teaching 46 Beginner to Pre-Professional Level dancers.

Kris Blake, of Roseland, mother of 9 year-old Emily Blake who will be performing the roles of Party Girl and Marzipan, commented,
“The dancers come from The Caldwell’s plus Essex Fells,  Fairfield and Roseland as well as Montclair and Verona;  it’s a very nice group.  Emily has danced for 5 years and this is her first year at WCBA,  as they just opened.”

When asked whether the student body is made up of both boys and girls,  Jarred commented,  “We only have girl students at the moment,  but are not exclusively a girls' school.  We welcome all students, regardless of gender!”

The Lead role of Clara will be performed by 13 year-old Caroline Lanfrank of Roseland.

Granger, formally a dancer with the Jeune Ballet de Paris, will be featured in a special performance as the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Schwartz, formerly with the Boston Ballet and the Joffrey Ballet, will be performing the role of the Cavalier.

Jarred received her BFA in Dance Performance with a Ballet Concentration from the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase.  Prior to her Conservatory training,  Austin was a company member of the The Irine Fokine School of Ballet in Ridgewood.

Jarred continued,
“WCBA's production of The Nutcracker is a traditional holiday story seen through a new lens that includes Modern Dance and of course, Classical Ballet.
The students will perform this classic ballet tradition that is sure to be the perfect holiday experience for the whole family.”
