Nutley Hazmat Responds to Grover Cleveland Park for Diesel Spill

CALDWELL / WEST CALDWELL, NJ -  Saturday morning around 11:20 a.m., Caldwell police and fire departments responded to Caldwell College for reports of a diesel fuel spill. It was determined that the fuel had made its way into the Pinebrook Creek which flows down to Grover Cleveland Park. The West Caldwell fire department assisted with the operation at the park and followed the creek down to Orton Road in West Caldwell. Due to the toxic nature of the spill, the Nutley Hazmat team was called in to ascertain how much of the fuel had made its way into the creek and how best it could be cleaned up.

Additionally , the source of the spill was surmised to be the auto body shop located at 95 Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell. At 1:15 p.m., the NJ Department of Environmental Protection arrived to evaluate the incident.
