Anthony J. “Tony” Prekel, Jr., 75, of South Plainfield passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014 at Haven Hospice in Edison.  Born on October 18, 1938 in Pittston, PA to Anthony J. Prekel, Sr. and Stacia (Wnuk) Prekel, he has resided in South Plainfield since 1959.

Mr. Prekel was a construction laborer for the Laborer’s Local Union #394 in Elizabeth for 45 years, retiring in 2002.  Tony ran concessions for Pop Warner, coached “Pony Tail” softball and volunteered for the Boosters in South Plainfield.  He was an avid fisherman and loved going to Atlantic City and playing bingo.

Mr. Prekel is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Donna J. Prekel of South Plainfield, his four beloved daughters, Lori Cummings of South Plainfield, Tammy Lynch and her husband Jim of Bridgewater, Kim Moore and her husband Dave of Blandon, PA and Sandy Strausser and her husband Robert of South Plainfield, his six cherished grandchildren; Jennifer, Danny, Jeremy, Jessica, Megan and Dylan and his two loving great-granddaughters, Madison and Teagan.  Tony is also survived by his three beloved siblings, Frank Prekel of Easton, PA, Julie Donahue of Petaluma, CA and Bernadette Skoda of Hillsborough.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 12th from 4 to 7pm at the South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ.  His funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 10:30am at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Tony’s name to Susan G.
