Theresa Barbieri, 85, of South Plainfield passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 at Haven Hospice in the JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Astoria, NY in 1928, she lived in East Northport, Long Island for 24 years before moving to Edison in 1985 and South Plainfield in 2010.

Theresa was active in the Edison Senior Center where she enjoyed line dancing and belonged to the traveling seniors.  She loved to sing, and enjoyed the company of family and friends.  She was a kind, caring, generous person and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Theresa was predeceased by her loving husband of 46 years, Dominick in 1997, her beloved son-in-law Steven Ales in 2007 and her three brothers; Johnny, Rocky and Joseph Caggiano. She is survived by her two devoted children, Rochelle Marie Ales of So. Plainfield and Joseph Barbieri of Elmhurst, NY. Theresa is also survived by her two cherished grandchildren, James Ales of Edison and Christopher Ales and his wife Jennifer of Middlesex, and her beloved                 great-granddaughter, Cassandra Theresa.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 11th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm at the South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10am at the Church of the Sacred Heart in South Plainfield. Her cremation will be private.  In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in her name to Haven Hospice at JFK, 80 James Street, Edison, NJ 08820.  Condolences may be sent to
