CLIFTON, NJ — John "Jack" Kasich, 91, of Clifton, passed away on Oct. 11, 2013
Born and raised in Jersey City, Kasich has been a Clifton resident since 1963. Before his retirement, Kasich was employed as a salesman with the Washington National Insurance Co. of Jersey City. He has been the patriarch of the Robert Treat Deli in Westfield and Henry's Deli in Clifton.
Kasich was a World War II veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, having served in Europe from 1942 to 1945. Kasich had a thirst for life. He was a people person who enjoyed being with his family and friends. Mr. Kasich was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, Clifton. He was a member of the AmVets of Jersey City; VFW Post #10122 of Scotch Plains – Fanwood; the American Legion of Scotch Plains and a Life Member of the Clifton ELKS Lodge.
Kasich was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sophie (nee Fiorentino) in 1998. Survivors include: his devoted children, Jack Kasich and his wife, Mary of Wyckoff, Gregory Kasich and his wife, Kim of Fanwood, Steven Kasich and his wife, Michelle of Yardley, PA, and Carolyn Maroon and her husband, John of Ellicott City, MD; and six grandchildren, John, IV, David, Andrea, Steven, Clayton and Cooper Kasich.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday 9:15 a.m. from the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton and 10:00 am at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, 797 Valley Road, Clifton. Entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson. Visiting will be Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Community Food Bank of NJ, 31 Evans Terminal, Hillside, NJ 07205 (www.cfbnj.org).
