On the Agenda: Board of Trustees for Monday, Aug. 11


SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – A public hearing on new parking regulations for Rynda Road is scheduled for the Monday, Aug. 11 Board of Trustees meeting, which will be held at the main stage of the South Orange Performing Arts Center. The public portion of the meeting begins at 8 p.m.

Under the new rules, parking will be limited to two hours on both side of the road from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for weekends and holidays. The restrictions will apply to the entire length of Rynda Road, from West South Orange Avenue to South Ridgewood Road.

Two additional pieces of legislation are on Monday’s agenda. The board will vote whether to introduce these two ordinances. One would allow appointment of non-South Orange residents to the Historic Preservation Commission. The second authorizes issuing a bond for $481,500 to cover the village’s share of improvements to sewerage facilities.

The agenda also includes the following:

  • An executive session, closed to the public, on the following topics: East Orange Water Commission, contract negotiations on a redevelopment issue, status of the litigation against the Jersey Animal Coalition, contract negotiations with the police and firefighter unions.
  • Promotion of Alan DiEsso to police lieutenant.
  • Awarding contracts to the following: Reivax Contracting Corp. for Garfield Place and Tichenor Avenue intersection improvements; Tilcon New York for milling, paving and road improvements on portions of Speir Drive, Overhill Road and Foster Court, not to exceed $250,000; and Denville Line Painting for line striping and painting of various crosswalks and road services, not to exceed $60,000
  • Approval of the purchase of two police cars and a 2015 Ford F350 truck for the Department of Public Works.
  • Approval of the 2015 municipal holiday calendar.
  • Reports from the six standing committees of the Board: Finance and Information Technology Committee, Legal and Personnel Committee, Planning and Zoning Committee, Public Safety Committee, Public Works and Infrastructure Committee and the Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee.
