One Arrested on Shoplifting Charges in South Orange

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – One person was arrested on shoplifting charges.

Devine Peebles, 20, of East Orange, was taken into custody when police responded to a report of a theft at Rite Aid at about 1:20 p.m. on July 29.  Officers apprehended Peebles on Kilburn Place and found him in possession of a stolen prepaid cell phone.

In other police news:

  • A Centre Street resident told police that someone smashed the front passenger’s side window of their 2012 Honda and stole a backpack from the front seat sometime during the overnight hours of July 27.  The backpack contained a laptop and textbooks.
  • Two Maplewood minors, both 16, were arrested when police responded to an alarm at the Montrose school on Clark Street shortly after 2 a.m. on July 28.  Officers apprehended the juveniles as they attempted to flee the scene.
  • A Grove Road resident reported that someone stole an item from a package delivered to their front porch by UPS sometime on July 28.
  • A Church Street resident stated that someone stole a blue Trek mountain bike from their front porch sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. on July 29.  The bike was locked to the porch at the time of the theft.
