Open Rehearsal May 9 with "Dance on the Lawn" Montclair Dance Festival First Commissioned Emerging Choreographer

The second annual Dance on the Lawn Dance Festival featuring NJ Dance Companies Maurice Chestnut, Randy James “10 Hairy Legs,” and Donna Scro’s “Freespace Dance” will return Saturday, September 12 to the lawn of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Montclair, NJ, 4:30-6:30pm.  See video excerpt of Dance On The Lawn 2014

The state’s first “Emerging Commissioned NJ Choreographer” Robert Mark Burke will present new work, and NJ Dance Schools Kathy Costa’s DanceWorks & Company, Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts’ Performance Workshop Ensemble and Nancy Turano’s New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble will also be featured. In addition, “Recognized New Jersey Dancers” Christopher Taylor, Jasmeer Bartel & Alkabir Lewis will perform choreography by artist LaQua Hall.

An open rehearsal featuring Robert Burke’s “work-in-progress” will be open to the public Saturday, May 9 from 6-9pm, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church’s Assembly Hall. Suggested donation - $20.

Dance on the Lawn celebrates dance in New Jersey, and aims to increase exposure to dance by bringing professional and emerging companies, plus students of dance from around the state, together in a community setting that is free and open to the public. In addition to offering performance opportunities, Dance on the Lawn has established an Emerging Commissioned New Jersey Choreographer and mentor program to help support young, emerging artists.
