SUMMIT, NJ - Girls Track Team member Emma Osborne and Girls Varsity Softball player Sami Auerbach have been named Summit High School Athletes of the Week, presented by The Alternative Press of Summit, for the week ending May 11.
Each week throughout the school year, two athletes will be honored for distinguishing themselves in the arena of competition, in the classroom, and for demonstrating exemplary, Hilltopper-caliber sportsmanship and leadership qualities.
At the Conference Championships, Osborne won the 100m, 200m, and received a bronze medal in the 400m. She has the second fastest time this year in Union County in the 100m, the fastest in the 200m, and the third fastest in the county in the 400m.
"Emma is an extraordinary talent," said Coach Adam Fern. "She is a dedicated and hardworking athlete who is just coming into her own." Added Coach Antonio Martins, "Emma is one of the top freshman in the state in her disciplines, and continues to develop thanks to her work ethic and consistency in training. She has been a pleasure to work with this year "
In three games during the week, Auerbach had 14 strikeouts, allowed only 4 runs, and walked just one batter. Against Roselle Park, she came close to throwing a no-hitter, letting up the only hit of the game in the 7th. As a freshman, she has a 4-3 record on the Varsity team this season.
“Sami is a dedicated athlete who understands the importance of hard work. Her determination has shown through her incredible improvement throughout the season,” said Head Coach Rachel Gordon-Killeen.
