Overlook Downtown Hosts Annual Holiday Luncheon for Seniors

December 18, 2012 at 10:50 AM

SUMMIT, NJ - On Monday, Dec. 17, Overlook Medical Center held their annual luncheon for seniors at their downtown facility in Summit.

Seniors were bussed to the event from the Community Center and an elegant meal was prepared by the chef from the hospital. Overlook Downtown originated three years ago and it has been very successful, said John Rosellini, Director of Business Development and Physician Relations at the hospital.

He and Alan Lieber, President of Overlook Medical Center, started the downtown location when a group of people asked if Overlook could have a significant presence in downtown Summit.   Rosellini said they were hoping the community would enjoy it, but they were a bit nervous how the community would react.

“We were really surprised [by the positive reaction],” he said. “We had no idea what to expect.”

The facility offers alternative and integrated forms of medicine, programs, yoga, tai-chi, massage therapy, acupuncture, nutritional counseling and many doctors hold seminars there, as well.

During the luncheon, Lieber spoke about Overlook’s challenge of obtaining a generator during Hurricane Sandy and how they persevered during the super storm. He also fielded questions and many people praised Overlook for its excellent care and service.

Judith Leblein Josephs, the director of Community Programs for Summit, said the seniors have a great time at the luncheon and really appreciate Overlook. Josephs also runs all senior-related activities in town and said the events the hospital holds for them are really beneficial.

“On all levels we have a great relationship with Overlook Medical Center,” Josephs said. “It’s a unique relationship that we have with them. If we ever need anything they’re there.”

Union resident Pat Myer, who attended the luncheon for the first time, said it was wonderful. Myer had surgery at the hospital a year ago and told Lieber the service and care she received was phenomenal.

Agnus and Joe Inserra of Summit, who also attended for the first time, enjoyed the food and had nothing but praise for Overlook. Agnus said whenever they have had to go to the hospital, the staff treats them with the utmost respect.

“We came because we wanted to hear all we can about the health issues and what is available for us,” she said.

One day as I was looking around a high-end cosmetics store for a new lipstick, a “beauty expert” approached me and said that I was so stunning I should forget the lipstick, and get a lip plumper instead. At first I wondered why I needed a lip plumper if I was already so stunning. But then I thought, “Now here is someone wearing a badge that says, ‘beauty expert,’ so ...

Getting a Handle on Thanksgiving

This year, on our National Day of Thanks, I would like to express my gratitude for having hands.

We typically don’t thank our body parts because they seldom leave us.  Most of us have not experienced unfortunate accidents or suffered the horrible consequences of war; tragic events  which might cause us to lose a limb.

Most of us take our fingers and hands and elbows ...
