Methacton graduate and current state senator, Sen. JohnC. Rafferty, Jr. (R-44) brought along citations from both the state house and state senate to recognize the ten young men at the board meeting. Citations were also given to the team’s coaches, as well as a copy for Methacton High School to keep and display.

“Some folks here thanked me for coming out on such a rainy night,” said Rafferty prior to his presentations. “But, these golfers know, it never rains on a golf course. It is a pleasure for me to be here this evening. I hope it is the first of many times I can be here to honor the athletic teams of Methacton School District.”

Rafferty said he was very proud of the team and its accomplishments this season. He was also there to congratulate those receiving the “Methacton M Award,” including the winter color guard which went undefeated this season and the student representatives to the school board.”

“As a Methacton alum, the time I got an ‘M’ was when my time was up with the school board, and they said ‘here, don’t let the door hit you,’” joked the senator. “Congratulations to each of you. To each and everyone of you I thank you for keeping up the strong academic achievements of Methacton School District.”

Representing both the Pennsylvania house and senate, Rafferty said he was there to recognize the team for “scholastic achievements,” inclusive of a 2013 PIAA state Class AAA Boys’ Team Golf Championship second place finish and the winning of the PAC-10 league PIAA Class AAA team titles.

Each of the ten players was given the house and senate citation. Each name was inscribed within the presented document.

“So guys, your name is now in the permanent record in the Senate of Pennsylvania,” said Rafferty. “Behave yourselves.”

Each coach, student and the district got a copy of the dual citation.

Coach Flanagan said he was grateful that such a presentation could be made during the meeting.

“I’d just like to say ‘thank you’ to the senator for stopping by,” said Flanagan. “The golf season was very impressive.”

Following his offering of congratulations, the senator said the teams had done a great job of bringing a positive image to the school district.

“On behalf of the Senate of Pennsylvania and the House of Representatives of Pennsylvania, congratulations,” said Rafferty. “Guys, well done. Thank you. You make us proud.”
