HACKENSACK, NJ -- Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced today the arrest of Michael J. Kaloudis of Stanhope, NJ, and Angela M Lopez of Middlesex, NJ, on charges of Burglary and Theft. The arrests are the result of a three-month investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.
In April 2019, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad (“BCPO SIS”) began an investigation into a series of concession stand burglaries at Little League fields, recreational centers, and municipal pools in Bergen County and throughout New Jersey, which appeared to share the same modus operandi. Specifically, the suspects would force in doors or windows during the overnight or early morning hours and steal cash, food and beverages, and concession stand appliances and tools.
The pair forced their way into the concession stand at Burnham Park on May 16, making off with several hundred dollars in cash, said authorities. Over two dozen Little League concession stands across the state have been burglarlized.
Through evidence obtained by law enforcement agencies throughout New Jersey, Kaloudis and Lopez were identified as the primary suspects in over forty concession stand burglaries. On Monday, June 24, detectives from the BCPO SIS located and arrested Kaloudis and Lopez in Wayne, New Jersey. Each was charged with eleven counts of Burglary, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2, crimes of the 3rd degree and one count of Theft, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 20-3A, a crime of the 3rd degree. There are pending Burglary and Theft charges for both Kaloudis and Lopez in other New Jersey counties.
The couple were remanded to the Bergen County jail pending a detention hearing in Hackensack, NJ on Friday, June 28, 2019.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
