PARKLAND, FL- Dr. Rupert Rhodd loves his job. The Parkland resident is an Associate Dean at the Florida Atlantic University College of Business. While his position carries a big title, it's his love of helping students grow that motivates Rhodd to work each day.

"I really love to help students and see them grow," says Dr. Rhodd.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Rhodd grew up and attended school in Jamaica before pursuing educational opportunities in the United States. Rhodd attended Fordham University and taught at Iona College on the way to receiving his Doctorate Degree. Though he loved his time at both schools, the laid back Rhodd was ready to get out of the cold, which led him to Florida.

"This Caribbean guy was getting tired of the cold, and the opportunity to teach in Florida opened up, so I gladly took it," said Rhodd.

Dr. Rhodd began his time at FAU on the main campus in Boca Raton before shifting to the Davie campus and becoming Associate Dean of the Business School, where he currently works.

One of the ongoing challenges that he faces involves virtual learning at FAU instead of the usual face-to-face instruction, which is something all schools are navigating in 2021. Ironically, Dr. Rhodd sees many of his students thriving in the virtual learning environment, even in comparison to the traditional on-campus experience.

"Many students we have are burdened with not having enough time in the day, and they are really enjoying the ability to log on for their courses and not have to travel to and from campus," shares Rhodd. "The challenge has become quite a unique opportunity."

At the end of the day, it's still the relationships, support, and care for students that drives Dr. Rhodd's passion for teaching.

"I love to see them grow. I love to help them find a path for success. It brings a smile to my face every day I get to log on and see my fellow staff and students," summarizes Rhodd.

To hear more from Dr. Rhodd, join him this coming Wednesday morning, March 3rd, as he shares his story and expertise in "A Conversation About the Economy" with the Parkland Chamber of Commerce.
