WOODLAND PARK, NJ - The County of Passaic will open its first COVID-19 vaccination mega distribution site in Woodland Park at the former Modell’s Sporting Goods store, 1710 Route 46 west. The site will open on Wednesday, Jan. 20. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shots will be given by appointment only.
Through the generosity of Mandelbaum & Mandelbaum LLC., Passaic County entered into a no-cost lease for the site, according to County Administrator Anthony DeNova, which will allow the county to greatly expand its COVID-19 response.
"We are very grateful to our County Commissioners and to our friends at Mandelbaum & Mandelbaum, LLC for working together to bring this mega-vaccination site to our County," said Woodland Park Mayor Keith Kazmark. "We look forward to hosting the site in centrally located Woodland Park."
“It is my pleasure to help residents and the County government distribute vaccines,” said Michael Mandelbaum. “I am merely doing what people are supposed to do in times of crisis. If we all work together, we can help turn the tide against this terrible pandemic. The idea that something I was involved with could help save lives, is thanks enough.”
Partnering with Vault Medical, Passaic County began providing the Moderna inoculations to residents on Dec. 31, 2020. After initially inoculating medical employees and first responders, distribution has been expanded and is now available to those 65 and up, and those age 18-64 with underlying medical conditions. Those conditions include cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD, Down Syndrome, heart conditions, obesity, sickle cell disease, smoking, and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Individuals who are pregnant and those who are immunocompromised are also eligible, but should first discuss vaccination with their medical provider. Details on vaccination phasing are defined by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and are available at www.cdc.gov.
To participate, you must register and make an appointment at www.passaiccountynj.org/COVIDvax. The registration portal will open on Saturday, Jan. 16. The Moderna vaccine requires two injections; those that get vaccinated will have to return for a second appointment approximately 28 days after the first injection. Eligible patients must have their driver’s license (or government-issued ID) and insurance information when registering.
“As guidelines from the Governor’s Office and the New Jersey Department of Health on administering vaccines rapidly change, Passaic County continues to be the leader in adapting and meeting the needs of our community,” said County Commissioner Director Pat Lepore.
