Passaic Man Arrested on Weapons, Possession Charges

On Sunday 5/4, at approximately 0245 A.M., Detectives with the city’s Ceasefire and Narcotics Units were assigned to a special violent crime suppression detail. While in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Godwin Avenue, Detectives observed a group of males congregating in the area. As Detectives exited their vehicle to investigate, a male identified as Carney Monts, 28, of Passaic discarded numerous glassine envelopes of suspected heroin to the ground, and fled on foot, with Detectives in pursuit. Monts was apprehended in the rear yard of a residence on 12th Avenue by Detectives Aramis Alba, Robert Orozco, and Francisco Brito, at which time Monts was found to be armed with a semi-automatic handgun. He was arrested, and is presently detained in the city lockup pending an initial court appearance. The recovered firearm will be delivered to the ballistics lab for further examination and testing.
